Spoegwolf
with Deon Meiring
A public holiday, a lawn that knows every word, and nowhere to be in the morning.
Gates 15:00 · Main act 18:00

26DEC
Boxing Day on a lawn, which is the correct use of Boxing Day. Warm, melodic and unhurried — the right volume for an afternoon when half the crowd is still full of yesterday’s lunch and nobody has anywhere to be.
The artist
Folktronica · Fish Hoek
Matthew Mole’s father taught him guitar in Fish Hoek; he taught himself the rest — ukulele, banjo, banjolele, piano, organ, drums. He was writing by the end of school and studying music production by 2010. Winning Converse’s Get Out of the Garage in 2012 put him on stage at London’s 100 Club and in a New York studio, and led to a record deal.
The Home We Built made him the first South African artist to debut at number one on iTunes SA on the day of release. Run did it again in 2016. Four albums in, the sound is still what people call folktronica — organic indie folk with electronics underneath it.
He has played Sunset Sessions longer than anyone else on this bill: December 2019, again on 21 December 2025, and now the Saturday after Christmas. Warm, melodic, unhurried — the right volume for a day when nobody is in a hurry.
15:00
Gates open
Arrive. Find your spot on the lawn. Something to eat, something cold, no hurry.
17:00
Opening act
Two hours in, the afternoon finds its rhythm. Shadows get longer. So do the conversations.
18:00
Main act
The sun drops. The music rises. This is the hour people come back for.
Before dark
Home
The last song lands while there is still light in the sky. Drive home in it.
