Watershed

with Keanan Eksteen

The Beating Hearts Tour, live in this town. Watershed are one of the country’s best-loved live bands and Stanford Hills is one of its favourite places to see one — a stone’s throw from Hermanus, rolling green lawns, the mountains behind the stage.

This session

Special guest Keanan Eksteen opens at 17:00. Then an afternoon of big tunes, a big stage and the kind of sunset that makes you want to stay a little longer.

It lands on the Monday before Christmas, with a catalogue most of the lawn has known for twenty years. Expect three generations of the same family on one blanket, all of them knowing the words.

The artist

Watershed

Pop rock · Johannesburg

Craig Hinds was a schoolteacher before Watershed. The band formed in Johannesburg in 1998, signed to EMI the following year, and went platinum with their debut In the Meantime — "Shine on Me", "Letters", and the one everybody knows, "Indigo Girl". A German radio DJ found that song and turned it into a top-ten hit there, which is how a Johannesburg band ended up touring Germany, Austria and Switzerland for years. Wrapped in Stone took the SAMA for Best Pop Album in 2003. Eight albums on, the most recent is Elephant In The Room.

They played the 2025 season on 19 December and return for the Monday before Christmas. A catalogue that deep means three generations on one blanket, all of them knowing more of it than they expect — which is exactly what this afternoon is for.

How theafternoon runs.

  1. 15:00

    Gates open

Arrive. Find your spot on the lawn. Something to eat, something cold, no hurry.

  2. 17:00

    Opening act

Two hours in, the afternoon finds its rhythm. Shadows get longer. So do the conversations.

  3. 18:00

    Main act

The sun drops. The music rises. This is the hour people come back for.

  4. Before dark

    Home

The last song lands while there is still light in the sky. Drive home in it.

Before you come

  • Gates open at 15:00 and the first act plays at 17:00. Those two hours are not dead time — they are the part people forget to plan for and then remember afterwards. Arrive early, eat something, pick your spot.
