Spoegwolf

Formed in Paarl in February 2012 — originally under the name Ysterkoei — Spoegwolf became the first Afrikaans group to reach number one on the Apple Music South Africa albums chart, with Koma in 2019. Danie du Toit on vocals, guitar and piano, Chris von Wielligh on guitar, Albert van der Merwe on bass, Moskou du Toit on drums. Eleven releases deep, from Swaartekrag to Lente, with a Ghoema Award for Somer along the way.

They opened the 2025 season on 16 December and they open 2026 on exactly the same date. Nine Afrikaans albums in thirteen years means a lawn that knows the words to most of it — which is the point. The crowd was standing by the second song last year.
